Approximately 115,000 people over the age of 65 in Austria are affected by heart valve disease. However, the disease largely remains undiagnosed, as a lack of awareness means that symptoms are often accepted as a normal part of growing older, even though they can be life-threatening.
This was the reason for the launch of the association “My Heart Valve – Association for Information about Heart Valve Diseases” in 2019. The goal is to create more awareness about heart valve disease in Austria and thus promote early detection and successful treatment in the long term. The association wants to inform, support those affected, bring people together, impart knowledge about the disease and thus help to avoid unnecessary heart valve deaths.
